WOODLANDS MOB -KILLED BY PARKS VICTORIA
Our amazing front line volunteers had kept these 150 eastern grey kangaroos inside the Bandicoot enclosure at Woodlands Historic Park safe from Parks Victoria for 3 years, since interrupting their slaughter on multiple occasions in 2016. However in November 2018, Parks Victoria secretly killed these poor kangaroos after lying to us, and saying they had no plans to kill them in the near future, while secretly applying for and acting on a permit to do just that. We were all devastated with this loss and the fact that a government department would lie to the public and stake holders in an effort to destroy protected native wildlife, owned by the public, on public land, treasured by tourists and with absolutely no scientific evidence whatsoever to support it.

Thanks to the amazing efforts of our volunteers, we had been able to protect these 150 kangaroos and their babies from being shot by Parks Victoria at the Woodlands Historic Park near Melbourne for over 3 years. Since May 2016, together with over 20 volunteers, ASK maintained around the clock patrols of the Back Paddock bandicoot enclosure at Woodlands where around 150 kangaroos and their babies lived in harmony with the threatened Eastern Barred Bandicoots, wallabies, possums, lizards, and lots of other native and non-native wildlife. Our patrols continued despite Parks Victoria attempting to shoot these kangaroos five times, with our brave and committed volunteers taking action every time to stop it.
ASK had numerous discussions and correspondence with Parks Victoria and government scientists and submitted a detailed four page submission to Parks Victoria and the Victorian government highlighting the science, the non-lethal strategies available and the complete lack of evidence to support this kill.
However sadly in November 2019 Parks Victoria secretly killed all 150 Woodlands Roos and their beautiful babies. ASK was corresponding directly with Parks Victoria during this time who stated categorically in an email they had no plans to kill them. They have deliberately misled and deceived a significant stakeholder and the general public and killed protected native wildlife on public land at a very popular tourist site- The Woodlands Historic Park Bandicoot Enclosure.
