kangaroo extermination on Public Land

Vic Govt set to slaughter all kangaroos from public land going by their permits to kill Red, Western Grey and Eastern Grey kangaroos

In a similar program being carried out in Canberra, the Victorian government appears to exterminating kangaroos from all public land going by their permits to kill Red, Western and Eastern Grey kangaroos in National Parks and government land in Victoria (2016). According to documents received under Freedom of Information, the Victorian government has issued permits to kill at least 60,000 Red, Western and Eastern Grey Kangaroos across national parks in the north of the state since 2000.

ASK has worked hard to highlight our concerns for the conservation of Victoria’s Red and Western Grey kangaroos in Victoria and have received some media in local papers in the north of the state. We have also had intense correspondence with Parks Victoria in this regard and have sought legal advice on the matter.

ASK has also demanded the Victorian government and the relevant public land managers provide credible evidence to support these large scale shooting programs on public land including Melbourne Water, Defence, and Parks Victoria, however none of these departments have been able to justify these permits or provide any scientific evidence to support them which is of serious concern considering tens of thousands of kangaroos have been killed on public land in Victoria in the past two decades. We will continue to follow this issue in an effort to hold these departments to account.

Here is a news report on these doomed kangaroos:
