Government Research Exposes Horrific Cruelty to Joeys

Stop kangaroo Joey killing

After a long 2 ½ year wait, the Australian Information Commissioner finally decided to uphold AgForce’s decision to refuse us access to photos and videos of joeys being slaughtered and orphaned during a government funded research study into the kangaroo industry. This research report was titled ‘Improving the humaneness of kangaroo harvesting. Over the two and half years while waiting for this decision, ASK submitted multiple lengthy submissions in an effort to argue the public’s right to access these images which were taken during tax payer funded research. However the Australian Information Commissioner decided to deny us these images on the basis that they were not in the public interest, despite the fact that this research was done at the expense of tax payers and as a direct result of the public’s concerns for the treatment of orphaned joeys by this industry. This is another example of how secret this entire industry needs to be to ensure its survival.
